Turkey Festival 2008
1st ANNUAL
TURKEY FESTIVAL

Sunday, November 16, 2008
10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m

The Friends of Lopez Lake (a subcommittee of San Luis Obispo Parks, Open Space & Trails Foundation) in conjunction with San Luis Obispo County Parks and Cal Poly Recreation Administration students are excited to announce the 1st Annual Lopez Lake Turkey Festival. The festival is a great opportunity for families and individuals to experience the beautiful Fall season and turkey wildlife at Lopez Lake while enjoying numerous activities. The event will include such activities as live music by “Those Guys”, Kids Carnival, Tiny Mile Turkey Trot, 5K Turkey Trek, Quality Handcrafted Arts and Craft Vendors, Food, Turkey Call Contest, Kids & Adult Raffle, Free Nature Boat Cruises and Hayrides. The main events will take place at the Valley Oak day use area located directly across from the ranger office.

THE FRIENDS OF LOPEZ LAKE: is a volunteer organization for Lopez Lake Recreation Area that helps support interpretive and community outreach programs as well as hosting monthly Free Kid’s Fishing Clinics.  The Friends currently maintain the Lopez Lake Native Garden located next to the marina and their long-term goal is to build a natural history museum. All donations to the FOLL go towards the development of park programs and services that, due to budget constraints, are unable to be funded by San Luis Obispo County Parks.

CAL POLY STUDENT VOLUNTEERS: The Cal Poly Recreation Adminstration students are helping with the event as part of a recreation class requirement. While planning this event the students are gaining valuable skills in event program planning, scheduling, marketing and promotions along with gaining knowledge about the host agencies program and operations. Please join us in supporting these students efforts.
