Facility Updates/Closures as of 08/22/25
- Santa Margarita Lake:
- Santa Margarita Lake is now open for day use visitors and camping. The Marina boat launch ramp is closed due to the continued need for fire water trucks to access the lake to draw water. The White Oak launch ramp is open to visitors for boat launching.
- Santa Margarita Lake currently has helicopters dipping water from the lake, near the dam, behind the buoys. This area is off limits to all boats at all times. The buoys are marked “closed do not enter”.
- White Oak Launch Ramp is open.
- Effective 05/23/25 Fire Restrictions will be in place.
- Starting November 1, 2024, SLO County Parks will no longer accept clear tags from other lakes due to the risk of Quagga and Zebra Mussel infestations. Lopez Lake and Santa Margarita Lake will also no longer honor each other’s clear tags. We apologize for the inconvenience, but this is crucial to prevent mussel infestations.
- Marina store is open.
- Jackass Canyon is open for fishing.
- River Road Parking Lot is open.
- Trails are open to all user groups.
- All dirt roads are open except part of Blue Oak Road and Heron.
- Cold Canyon is closed for Fish Spawning Habitat.
- Mackey Point is open.
- Santa Margarita Park:
- The restrooms are closed. Portable toilets are available onsite.
- Lopez Lake:
- Lopez Lake will be open for day use visitors and camping on Thursday 8/21/25. The boil-water order has been lifted.
- Shamel Park: There is a partial closure of the playground.
- Dairy Creek:
- Carts are restricted to “cart path only” until further notice.
- Coastal Accessway Closures:
- Cayucos: El Sereno and 2698 Studio Drive accessways are closed due to storm damage.
- Cambria: Wedgewood accessway and Lampton Cliffs are closed due to storm damage.
- Visitors should adhere to posted signage at all coastal areas.
- Cayucos Vets Hall currently under construction with partial closure of parking lot.
- Bounce houses are not permitted at this time.
