Alerts & Current Conditions

Facility Updates/Closures as of 10/16/2024

  • Playgrounds at El Chorro Regional Park, Los Osos Community Park and Paul Andrews Park will be temporarily closed Thursday, October 26, 2024, for maintenance.
  • Santa Margarita Lake:
    • Starting November 1, 2024, SLO County Parks will no longer accept clear tags from other lakes due to the risk of Quagga and Zebra Mussel infestations. Lopez Lake and Santa Margarita Lake will also no longer honor each other’s clear tags. We apologize for the inconvenience, but this is crucial to prevent mussel infestations.
    • Fire Restrictions in Place (see below).
    • Marina launch ramp is open for two person launch only. Vehicles with low clearance are advised to use the White Oak launch ramp due to high water conditions and gradual slope. The  White Oak launch ramp is open.
    • Marina store is open.
    • Jackass Canyon is open for fishing.
    • Trails are open.
    • Dirt roads and River Road staging area are open.
    • All campsites are open.
    • Boat-in sites are open to boats.
    • Mackey Point is open.
    • Backcountry campsites are open to overnight camping by boating or hiking.
  • Santa Margarita Community Park:
    • Restrooms are open and the portable toilets have been removed.
  • Lopez Lake is open for camping and day use

  • Dairy Creek:
    • Carts are restricted to “cart path only” until further notice.
  • Coastal Accessway Closures:
    • Cayucos:  El Sereno and 2698 Studio Drive accessways are closed due to storm damage.
    • Cambria:   Wedgewood accessway and Lampton Cliffs are closed due to storm damage.
    • Visitors should adhere to posted signage at all coastal areas.
  • Cayucos Vets Hall currently under construction with partial closure of parking lot.

Temporary Fire Restrictions in Place

Temporary fire restrictions have been put in place at Lopez Lake and Santa Margarita Lake. 

Allowances: Portable lanterns, gas stoves & gas barbecues in developed camp areas are allowed; they must have a shut-off valve with the ability to immediately extinguish any flame. Traeger type enclosed wood chips and pellets for cooking are also allowed. Propane fueled fire rings are allowed in developed campsites only and must have a shut-off valve with the ability to immediately extinguish any flame.

Not Permitted During Restrictions: Wood or charcoal fires are not allowed.
