Facility Updates/Closures

  • Coastal Dunes and Oceano Campground
    • Caltrans is doing road construction along on Hwy 1 from 08/28/2023 through 01/31/2024.  Working hours of construction are as follows:
      • Sunday – Thursday 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
      • Monday – Thursday 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
      • Friday 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
  • Santa Margarita Lake:
    • There will be a cross-country meet held at the lake on 09/23/23 and the White Oak day use are, White Oak launch ramp and Vaca Road will be closed to vehicles until 2:00 p.m.
    • Temporary fire restrictions in place. Details below.
    • All campsites are open except River Road Horse Camp.
    • Boat-in sites are open to boats or hike in.
    • Marina store and launch ramp are open.
    • Mackey Point is open.
    • Rocky Trail and Grey Pine are open to all user groups. Blinn Ranch Road Trail is open to hiking only.  Sandstone Trail is closed.
    • All dirt roads are open.
    • Backcountry campsites are open to overnight camping by boating or hiking.
  • Santa Margarita Community Park:
    • Restrooms are closed. Repairs to septic system are in progress.  Portable toilets are onsite until repairs are complete.
  • El Chorro Campground:
    • Temporary fire restrictions in place. Details below.
  • Lopez Lake is open for camping and day use.
    • Temporary fire restrictions in place. Details below.
    • All trails are open to hiking and biking.  Equestrian use is not allowed at this time, repair efforts are continuing, and several areas are still unsafe for horses.
  • Coastal Accessway Closures:
    • Cayucos:  El Sereno and 2698 Studio Drive accessways are closed due to storm damage.
    • Cambria:   Wedgewood accessway and Lampton Cliffs are closed due to storm damage.
    • Visitors should adhere to posted signage at all coastal areas.
  • Cayucos Beach playground next to pier will remain closed until safety conditions are improved.
  • Cayucos Vets Hall currently under construction with partial closure of parking lot.

Temporary Fire Restrictions

Temporary fire restrictions are in effect at Lopez Lake, Santa Margarita Lake and El Chorro Campground.

  • Allowances:  Portable lanterns, gas stoves and gas barbecues in developed camp areas are allowed; they must have a shut-off valve with the ability to immediately extinguish any flame. Traeger type enclosed wood chips and pellets for cooking are also allowed. Propane fueled fire rings are allowed in developed campsites only and must have a shut-off valve with the ability to immediately extinguish any flame.
  • Not Permitted:  Wood or charcoal fires are not allowed.
